My Stories: The Storyteller
                       My Stories: The Storyteller

you have a 9′ Indian standing behind you to your right?” he said.

I didn’t know. ‘And that’s why you do the art that you do’. Not the usual comment I would hear at an Art Fair, and long before political correctness came into being, but certainly interesting. ‘He’ turned out to be a healer named Silverman. His guides said that if I ever needed a healing, just give him a call. I didn’t, but my Mother did. I know he kept her alive an extra 3 years more than any doctor at the time. She brewed a tea with a recipe he gave her and drank it religiously 3 times a day. My Great Native American Guardian, whom I have felt many times, had to be in this painting!

Then there was the Big Dream. I was being chased across campus by a big guy in a mask. As I reached my dorm room, slammed the door and bolted it, He burst through. I saw him clearly, heart pounding, as I heard ‘Square headed radiation mutant’! What?! Later back in my classroom, while taping loose pages back into one of my resource books, there He was, on the page: a Kachina. This led to many meditation journeys through a cave, where 3 Kachinas would show me my next painting. I was in Awe!

The Swans I would see daily while in Chicago last week. So majestic. Rulers of the waters. Dear Mother Dove sat in our wreath for weeks, dedicated to keeping her 2 babies safe. Gone upon our return, I can only hope they fly together. Three Hawks represent the three different types I’ve seen in the last 3 days: white falcons, huge red tail, and goshawk. Plus, it’s full Moon week!

Then there’s the Fairy Stone. Walking in our woods behind the house, all seemed so still, so magical, so I asked for a gift from the woodland spirits. I didn’t know what to expect, when I stubbed my shoe on a white stone. It turned out to be the top of an 11″ crystal, weighing just enough for me to lift to our stone wall. Another Wow. Another story on my mind this week that made its way into my latest painting. I call these Narrative Paintings, filled with symbols and metaphors of my stories….today.
