Bears, Birds, Bunnies, metaphors for life. We can learn so much from them if we see them with a mindful heart and open mind.

Owls, hawks, ravens, and even grackles, are constantly communicating with each other, and us. First of all, birds seem to want to connect because they thrive on community. They call, often beautifully, each having their own unique sound, language, and voice.

Conversations go on throughout the forest with owls finding other owls, grackles warning me away from their nests in the azaleas, and blue jays telling us off when the bird feeder is empty. Their songs are ones of just Being, living their joy, calling their babies, and enjoying strength in numbers. Birds thrive through smoky haze, pounding storms, and harsh winters because they are together. They cooperate with each other as ravens warn of hawks, and sparrows chase ravens, each defending their offspring in fierce brave courageous acts.

Then there are songbirds who migrate south through some group knowing of the changes of the seasons. In addition, flocks can feel the earth’s magnetic field. They gather info to return to breeding grounds they’ve followed for generations. Group migration keeps them alive.

Secondly, Bunnies are inquisitive, curious, and playful as they run races beneath the trees, leap in the air out of pure joy, and learn about life by using all the senses. Here’s where we learn to listen deeply.

Plus, bunnies learn about life by tasting, smelling, feeling, and listening deeply. Buns are natural born explorers. Ours returns each year to her usual hang-outs around the thicket of the forest, across the clover filled grasses, and up and down the hills from land to creek. She pauses to listen to the bird calls, and knows a hawk from a cardinal.

Every day is new and fresh as she lives full of energy, vibrancy, and excitement to experience it fully. I talk to her, tell her we love her, and welcome her back as a breath of fresh air.

So, I attempt to be as aware in listening to the thoughts, ideas, and inspiration that seem to float as energy clouds though the ethers. Daily journals are full of the wisps of answers and new paths to follow that come from some genius out there.
