Owl Totem, intuitive, wise adventure seeker

Powerful Earth Medicine brings balance to our lives. This Way of Life has been passed down through generations of ancestral Tribes all over the world. The people who lived closest to the land, relied on the teachings of oral traditions, heritage, and stories. We, too, can be One with the Earth, all connected, as we follow them and learn about our brother Animals, plants, winds, Sun, stars, and Moon to survive and thrive.

Over the years, I keep going back to the lessons of the tribes who populated everywhere I’ve ever lived. From Chi-ca-go, Iroquois, Algonquin, Omaha, Mohawk, to the Hopi and Dine’, I’ve learned so much about living with respect for all living things.

I stay healthy when eating living plants, veggies, greens, fruits, and nuts for energy and healing. Also, the phases of the Moon keep me on a path of beginning new adventures at New Moon, and winding activities up at Full. Cycles of wind, seasons, and 4 directions teach me of repeated patterns of life for every major passageway moving forward. In addition, I see there’s a natural birth, growth, and assimilation for everything I encounter along the way. But I really love the Way of the Animals as Totems.

Powerful Earth Medicine shapes our world.

Totems are natural objects or animals believed to be physically and spiritually powerful. They can act on our behalf to shape the future, bring luck and strength to a person, and show them how to live. Furthermore, each bird or animal has its own attributes that influence a person at birth. But in the past, each also belonged to a Clan with particular powers.

My Birth Totem in the Earth Medicine Wheel is the Owl. I see her as Warrior Owl, seemingly soft and gentle as in the image above, but strong, determined, and intuitive at her core. Next, the Astrolabe that forms her halo is a part of one we own. It symbolizes direction and focus. She creates the world she wants to live in. Most of all, she knows to be at peace with herself, she must move the energy in the body with action, art, and writing. She seeks new adventures and possibilities.

A talisman like an animal shaped stick, a statue, bone, fur, feather, or image of your totem creates a strong bond to connect you to your natural powers. Call on your totem to get guidance through any challenge.

So, what creature are you drawn to or see often in pictures or even in life? Are you the free spirited Raven, who needs their tribe to flourish, yet loves to fly free? Do you relate to the secretive, mysterious Snake, who sheds their old skin, and adapts to all situations?

Most of all, totems help you to trust your inner wisdom. On a shaman journey, one travels through a cave to another world, and the animal you see 3 times, is your totem, your Power Animal Guide. I remember seeing White Owl twice, and asking is Owl really my symbol? Then She flew right into my face and through me! She was the one all right.

Be curious and explore the ancestors who lived where you are now. See if you can relate to their ways, beliefs, and earth connections. Allow Earth Medicine to open new doors to your Self. Expand, evolve, and grow with each new teaching. Have fun with it all as Summer Solstice approaches. Play like the animals in the Dreamtime.
