Dawn of the Owl

Dawn of the Owl

Dawn of the Owl, listening to insights upon waking

Dawn of the Owl is the messenger between the worlds. She glides silently into our dawn, waking consciousness with ideas, directions, and surprising brilliant insights. Problems are solved in amazing ways. This is touching the magic and being aware from a deep subconscious level.

But our actual owls have returned! They are huge, curious, and soar silently over our heads like ghosts in a graveyard, as we take the morning garbage out. Their absolutely quiet wings create an aura of Magic from the source realm of otherness. Owls appear at dawn and twilight, as they gather, call to each other, and rule the night.

One time not so long ago, we were coming come and getting the mail from our box up the hill. The days were getting shorter then, just as they are now. There on a low branch of one of the arching, tall evergreen trees, sat the most beautiful, white, bar-shoulder owl. She was as curious to watch us, as we were to photograph her! What an amazing gift to find over our driveway.

And even though I say they’ve returned, in truth, they probably never left. Masters of camouflage, they blend in completely when the trees are full. Somehow they can make themselves thin and sway back and forth like a branch. They often make their nests in the hollow of our trees, as their marked wings become like the bark of the tree. Magicians of the invisible, they have no fear of us as they startle and surprise us, flowing closely in the pre-dawn sky.

Dawn of the Owl brings clarity to my waking mind.

Owls are other worldly creatures, dwelling where the secrets live and dreams are born. Since ancient times, they have been revered as creatures holding the wisdom of all time. The Goddess Athena had a Little Owl that sat on her blind side. She would consult Owl in all things, since even goddesses don’t have all the answers.

For me, I’ve always taken my time to make a decision. I needed to explore all angles of anything, learn all that I could about it, and then finally make an educated choice. But even then, I would listen to my own little owl within and make new choices when necessary. Decisions are not carved in stone. Anything can be fixed, altered, and shifted until it truly ‘feels’ right. I do this all the time.

Owl is my totem animal. I’ve dreamt powerful dreams about her, found her on journeys, and felt her essence throughout my life. She brings balance and wisdom when I need it most.

For example, my Dawn of the Owl painting above is an owl I love. I’ve put her in other art, but she needed one painting all to herself. The trees and water are taken from our scenic road down the street. The moon is our crescent New Moon in our evening sky. So I’ve added parts of our reality to honor our owls of the dawn, who inspire and amaze me. Now this ‘feels’ right.
