A Guide to the Magic of Summer Solstice

A Guide to the Magic of Summer Solstice has to begin with the ancients. How did this all start anyway? We know in Ireland, summer Solstice has always been sacred. People would start to gather on the Hill of Tara in County Meath, the night before sunrise. A day of Light, Celebration, and promise for over 6,000 years, Tara tales name this spot the place of the gods.

A second famous site, Stonehenge has also traditionally been a Summer Solstice gathering place. This year it will be streamed Live for everyone to experience. Sunrise was the start of the festivities. With 2020, safety comes first here and in all gatherings. This is celestially the longest day of the year, falls on Saturday, June 20, followed by a New Moon on Sunday. A double celebration.

Worldwide, Bonfire Nights are lit on hilltops and at sacred sites. Midsummer Traditions called for magical rituals, which meant doing something with intention. Light a candle for health for the year. Create art filled with spirals and light. Allow yourself to enter the no time, paint, write, draw, and listen for inspiration to guide you. Connect with loved ones in a safe way. Write wishes for yourself and cast them into the fire. This is a potent time of love, fertility, and abundance.

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” William Butler Yeats

So as the Earth tilts its axis north, how will you mark the date? A Guide to the Magic of Solstice tells us the world seems to pause and hold it’s breath. ‘Solstice’ is in fact Latin for ‘sol’ (sun) and sistere (to stand still). So let’s all pause at this Midsummer magical time, light our inner fires, and breathe in the summers of long ago. Check your shortest shadow of the year at noon! Create some Magic.
