Three Spirits, Love, Respect, Remember

Three Spirits Love Respect Remember all come together at this time of the year as family & friends reconnect, break bread, and share stories. My family gatherings have always been filled with all ages. Like the new tribe discovered in the jungle, we never counted birthdays. We celebrated them. Also, we accepted each other in the moment, as we are, without any age, race, political, or sexual prejudices coming between us. Everyone had their own personal life experiences and insights to share with love to the group.

I don’t understand people who keep pushing, insisting on knowing someone’s age. This is stereotyping and prejudice in every way. Why be governed by a number filled with so much cultural baggage? My big concern was always to recognize myself, and know who I am, whenever I looked in the mirror.

I remember two teachers who both cut their long hair short when they turned 30. Why, I wondered? They said it made them feel like an adult, a rite of passage. Well, I think it will take a lot more wisdom than cutting one’s hair to feel like an adult. It’s just another manmade way to label and discriminate people. Why can’t we each be who we are in the moment and be accepted as such?

I’ve read that ageism is a judgement against the very young and the elderly. What a sad way to live. We must teach our young people to respect everyone. Other cultures like the Far East, India, and Brazil honor the wisdom that comes from a life well lived and shared with the community.

Most of all, this is especially true for our children. Don’t stigmatize the children you know with any lifestyles based on a number. Again, biological clocks, achievements reached by a certain ‘age’, and career choices based on how old you are, are man made devices to control people.

Plus, once the ‘child’ you love reaches 30, they are an adult and it’s their own personal information of their ‘number’ in life. It’s none of your ‘friends’ business. Just say, they are an adult and doing great. It’s irresponsible to label them in any other way. It’s just another revolution around the Sun.

Therefore, let’s stop this prejudice now in our own community and family. You are what you think you are, and never allow anyone to make you feel any less value due to candles on a cake.

Three Spirits Love Respect Remember returns me to my family treasures.

My grandmother used to say, stay away from old people. She saw that regardless of age, there were those who gave up on life, resigned themselves to society beliefs, and didn’t add to anyone’s quality of life. She ran her own restaurant for years, was a great traveler, and laughed often. Life was always good in her eyes.

My Mom was the heart of the home. She helped raise my daughter, passed on her wisdom to us, and lived a vital, energetic life. She loved to dance, would hold feasts on the holidays, and was always up for a new adventure.

I know that I am a healthier, happier person by living an ageless life. Numbers hold no meaning. My beliefs are my self-fulfilling prophecy of a life well lived.

Therefore, just keep expanding your knowledge without limits. Make every day a new day of learning, growth, adventure, and fun. Hang with the kids. Do what you love and you’ll find your passion.
