Entering the Mystery

Entering the Mystery

Entering The Mystery, when colors glow

Entering the Mystery opens the door to other worlds. I start with a photo from one of my nature drives, but then something deep within me takes over. My inner world emerges with colors and flow from some other place. It’s a mystery how this happens. Also, I lose myself in the creation process, as I release any preconceived thoughts about the art. It never turns out the way I planned. As a result, Intuition guides my hand as I just ‘know’ the next color, shape, and form.

The forest is filled with golden leaves falling like fairies through the mist. This is a changing time, a moment in time, to be loved, appreciated, and remembered. Above all, I want to capture the feeling of the woods, the rushing waters, the other-worldly colors before the rains come and wash them away.

Nature keeps changing her form and colors day by day. The sun reflected on morning leaves is bright white with dew and atmosphere. Mists roll in as cooler air mingles with the wet ground, soaked from stormy downpours. In addition, Waterfalls appear tumbling over rock formations on the hills next to the scenic roads. All is shifting as the temperature rises and falls as much as 30 degrees in a day.

“I don’t draw hard distinctions between the inner and the outer world. Observing the outer world is an inner experience.” Rick Stevens, artist

Entering the Mystery opens to inner experiences.

I gather leaves and sticks to try to match the colors that I see. There’s a pink-red that has no name in the vast tubes of paint or oil pastels. I mix different tones to come close to the brilliant art of Mother Earth. Even photos can’t capture the elusive New England colors.

There’s an energy moving here. Quantum physics speaks of particles that get ever smaller and the space in between. Here’s where the magic lies. It’s the part that keeps moving fluidly along in it’s own unique dance of life. Nothing is really solid.

We and all we see are made up of the same flowing, spinning, atoms of the Universe. Here’s the plan. Be inspired by the outer world, start to create something from your heart, and then let go of the outcome as imagination takes over in the Magical making of Art.

I love this place of No Time, this Other Inner World. My process is one of exploring and discovering with movement, color, line, and form within time and space. Art, like Nature, is constantly moving and evolving with an inner light that radiates out to the viewer. Additionally, this is the deeper seeing as a artist sees, feeling as a creator feels. It unifies each of us, connects us to the deeper mystery of life.

Therefore, I encourage you all to spend quiet time in Nature to find your truth. Create something with art, assemblage, photos, music, or writing that is uniquely yours. Mark this moment in your life to remember this precious day.

See some videos of my creative process at YouTube. Let me know how you marked this day in your life.
