Follow The Sun

Follow The Sun

Valley of the Half Moon, When the Sun Magically turns the Mountains Red

Follow the Sun on it’s southernmost journey over the Earth. As the dawn comes later, and the sunsets earlier, Our Sun puts on a spectacular celestial display as it moves ever closer to Winter Solstice. It seems to move quickly now, so take advantage of every sunny day to connect to it’s power and progress. Be a Skywatcher!

First of all, look at the shadows cast. The Sun is so low in the sky, the shadows become long and lasting. Unlike the summer sun which hovers right above us all, casting everything in a warm, blanket of light, Winter Sun comes on like a beacon in the sky. First light in the forest shows a sharp contrast of light and dark. It comes on strong, and we need sunglasses to navigate through it.

Secondly, look to the ancient legends to find strength during this time. I first think of Frigga, the goddess who births the Sun at the Solstice. She brings light, hope, and promises of rebirth after the cold dark nights. Then there is the legend of Helios, god of the sun, who wears a radiant crown and drives the chariot of the sun across Oceania each day. He rules with magic and spells, as the all-seeing witness of life. With these we are reminded that everything earthly runs in cycles. The Sun will return with warmth one day soon.

As the days get shorter, I’m reminded of a Hopi Guide who showed me the mountain range where the setting sun showed the movement leading to Solstice. The Sun sets at a different part of the mountains each day. Once it reaches the lowest dip in the vast range of hills in the distance, that is Solstice. The day the Sun stands still. Then it will begin it’s northern journey back to us bringing new life, springtime, and warmth.

Follow the Sun as it becomes the Fire in the Sky

Finally, take a drive to a high summit where you have a clear view of sunset. It can be spectacular in every way. A combination of the atmosphere closer to earth, the strong angle of the sun, and the straight view of leafless trees or distant hills, creates surreal scenes of our setting sun. The image below was just the other day, on the way home.

And then, turn around to see what the sun is doing to the hills and homes behind you! The painting above is when the sun hit the mountains in Santa Fe, and they turned red magenta! You feel as though you are in a magical painting.

Most of all, remember to bring the Light within you. This was not my day. I said the wrong thing to someone, I couldn’t read the challenge letters proving I was human to open my kindle, and Alexa wouldn’t play music. The energies were not with me at this time. So I decided to lay low. I played chanting by Deva Premal, lit incense, and burned sage, smudging myself and my space. I’ll be painting today. I needed quiet time to listen, create, and let it all go.

Therefore, Fill yourself with light today. Imagine it flooding in and though you, all in your body and aura. Listen to the inner wisdom. Step away from the world for awhile, until you feel the energies shift and flow again. Don’t force the river. It may take a day or two. Go into the stillness of winter and give yourself permission to slow down, refresh, and be in the moment of now.

Sunset, Fire in the Sky
