Secret Language of Love

Secret Language of Love

Poppies, Flowers Language of Love

Secret Language of Love has been flowers forever. Egyptians had wreaths of flowers on their chest to carry to the afterlife. Even Neanderthals placed a garland of flowers on the body of their loved ones who died. They are so colorful, intricate, and such a mystery of Nature. In addition, with their number of petals adding more meaning, the colors themselves have become powerful symbols through the ages.

“Color! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams.” Paul Gauguin

Victorians elevated flowers to the highest messages of all. A bouquet could speak volumes to a wise lover. Tulips were the first sign of attention and interest. A calling card with flowers was the perfect gift.

Next, we have lavender or any purple flowers. Purple declares magic happening without saying the word love. The sender is mesmerized, and would like to get to know you better. It casts a spell and the mystery begins.

Also, Victorians loved a type of lily called Alstroemeria. Artists at the time painted them. Fashion conscious people wore them in their hats and on coats. And admirers, whether men or women, gave them to show their devotion. They were pressed and included in letters to express love without saying the words.

Plus, add Baby’s Breath to a bouquet for the added message of love forever, undying, and true. And of course red roses were always the symbol of passionate soul love.

The Secret Language of Love holds a deep, unforgettable memory.

For myself, my pink wedding roses filled the banquet hall. In my bouquet, the bridesmaids rose dresses, the decoration on the cake, on every table, my favorite color surrounded me.

In contrast, my daughter chose beautiful, white roses for her bouquet. I asked the restaurant to make a wedding cake for them. At first, the European chef asked if I wanted strawberry shortcake, or fruit on it. No, I really wanted white roses. To our surprise, she made the most beautiful white cake with REAL white rose buds covering the top! And she served it on her mother’s antique cake plate. It was gorgeous in every way!

” I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way, things I had no words for.” Georgia O’Keeffe

But one flower that fills my memory of growing up has to be poppies. After the war, poppies were given in memory of all those we’d lost. Poppies became the flower of soldiers lost, of lives changed, of never to be forgotten souls who impacted our lives. My Aunts made fabric poppies and gave one to whoever donated to the veteran’s families. Veterans Day was poppy day.

So do you love violets to never forget someone, roses for the passion you once knew, or forsythia as the first sign of Spring and new life? Flowers are beautiful, meaningful, and memorable signs of the evolving cycles of life. Use them as your language of love. Paint some poppies with me today! Flowers= joy, love, memories.
