Animal Medicine Magic for the Soul: Deer of Early Spring

Animal Medicine reconnects us to Earth, Spirit, and our inner Secret Kingdom. What do we mean by Medicine? In a shamanic way, medicine is anything that heals head, heart, or body. How animals behave, relate to us, and appear, impacts us on many levels. They are our teachers for life. So if an animal inspires you, appears to you, or connects eye to eye, it’s good medicine. Drink it in and feel it deeply.

Early Spring Animal Medicine is Deer. Moreover, I’ve seen Deer pause at the edge of the woods as the lead doe stomped her feet, signaling the fawns to freeze. Next she proceeded to explore the yard as the scent of bobcat filled the air. The adults routed that cat right out of the area. Therefore, Doe is the protector of her family, guardian of safe passage, and sensually aware of her space. She tunes in to every scent, sound, and movement.

Deer represents Springtime, new beginnings, the Wind, and the East. A Magical animal, said to protect sacred places like stone circles in Celtic lands. They silently appear, become invisible in a second, and move with grace through rocky forests. Plus, Deer comes to us as fawn, doe, and buck, similar to our phases of innocent child, sensual as well as maternally strong female, as well as the energetic fiercely protective father figure.

Deer Healing Visitation

I clearly remember an Animal Medicine energy healing I had right after my Dad passed. As a result of days of deep grieving, I had to get out of the city to be in Nature. Most of all, I sought inner peace, some sign that he was all right. One especially favorite spot back then was a forest preserve walking path in a deep woods Chicago suburb.

As I rounded a bend, there on the path stood a huge, regal, Stag. Silent and still, with large antlers and a powerful body, I immediately stopped in my tracks. Not only had I never seen wildlife here before, but I had never been so close to such a magnificent, wild animal in my life. He looked at me, and the eye to eye connection was electric. My heart seemed to open, and I just knew that this was a message from my Dad. After awhile, he quietly crossed the path and disappeared into the forest. I was thrilled, elated, and never afraid.

Personalize Your Experience

In conclusion, the Ancients saw Animal Medicine as a great source of power. Furthermore, they would move and sound like them, dance and dress to honor them. Getting into their skin connected the ancestors to the energy of the animal’s spirit. Moreover, to be able to ‘read’ and understand the wisdom of the animal world, was a gift from Great Spirit.

What creatures have blessed your life today? When they do, go deep into your intuition and feelings to find your personal message. Write down insights throughout the day, be aware of their powers and meaning at this moment in life. Remember, Shamans know that our everyday ‘reality’ only barely touches the surface of the power, truth, and magic of the Universe. As a result, Stag will forever be my Dad, blessing me with a sign that all is well.
