Developing Intuition and Trust in your Life and Art

Developing Intuition and Trust in your Self is key to being an Artist. This only happens as you Do more art. It’s an enigma. We don’t do art because of so many reasons. We don’t want to waste materials, think we haven’t learned enough, or allow distractions to take over.

I recently took a class where the instructor covered layers and layers of expensive paper with patterns. We had no clear goal in mind. I couldn’t do it. I needed a purpose. They ended up making gift journals or something.

I like an Art Path to follow. Success lies in the doing of each progressive step. It at least gives me some measurement of my progress. I don’t stick to it like rules…don’t like rules. But it’s a guideline to get me somewhere.

Developing your intuition and trust lies in the belief there are no mistakes that can’t be fixed. There’s white paint for everything! I recently saw someone post on an art site a 2′ stack of used canvases. She said something like, what should I do with all that didn’t work? What!? Paint over them of course!

All the great masters did. Our tech is discovering layers of many other paintings, false starts, sketches under masterpieces. I paint over my old work all the time. Use those canvases and make them great!

You know, there will always be new techniques to learn. Art isn’t perfect. It’s messy and experimental. First comes Trust. Trust in yourself to start today and apply what you know. That’s where your power lies. One piece leads to another.

I recently read that great photographers have a 6th Sense. Some mysterious intuition is working before they see the shot. Then when it appears, they’re ready and it’s gorgeous. That happens when you have the HABIT of Doing Art. The pieces are coming together in consciousness ahead of time. Then you create an Intuitive Painting that flows. Believe it! I know this to be true.
