Navigating Extreme Changes

Navigating Extreme Changes

Full Moon of Change, Oil Pastel, Return to my Roots

Navigating Extreme Changes calls for making conscious choices. Fall has always been a time of shifting gears. Pumpkins appear everywhere, geese are gathering attempting V formations, and Skeletons hang on trees. It’s a restart time, away from the warmth of summer, to blustery days ahead.

Nature triggers a change. Soft rains become torrential downpours, hummingbirds drink fully, preparing for the long trip South, and salmon make their way back to their river breeding grounds.

For a good part of our lives, people would return to the classroom, explore new ideas, and organize their lives for the coming year. So what preparations do you need to help keep you in balance?

First of all, return to your roots. Just as the trees shift with the cooler weather by sending sap down to their roots, each of us can return to our roots for energy, comfort, and stability. What did you love growing up? How can you play again?

For me, my roots were filled with making art, exploring new places, and listening to what ‘feels’ good in the moment. After teaching high school art, I used oil pastels to make art filled with symbols of my life. They are so earthy, and full of rich colors and textures. But I haven’t worked with them in years. I was curious as to what I would do.

The above Full Moon of Change is the result. I’ve just returned from my second love, which is Traveling, which opens me to new experiences. The sky and mountains are from my trip to New Mexico, while I added the water from other dreams I’ve had. Creativity keeps the energy flowing.

Secondly, try something new to trigger your passion. What are you good at doing that you can pursue? What are you becoming today? Practice takes time but is so worth the effort. Try cooking a new dish, or learning about a different culture to see how they live. Be curious and open to the world. There’s so much more beyond your backyard. New possibilities open to the Mystery and Magic of life.

Navigating extreme changes isn’t a solitary path.

Thirdly, check in with your Inner Wisdom in all you do. Trusting your intuition will have you mask up when needed, and stay out in wide open spaces most of the time. Conscious Living connects each of us to each other. Knowing deeply comes from being in sync with all life around you. Seek the high ground in life and with people when the storms come. Pay attention to the energies of the world around you.

Be flexible and become the flowing river, always moving, and never the same twice. Know that just as the river changes the landscape, everything you do shifts your life in new ways. Changing times call for changing actions. Your actions each day reveal the person you are Becoming as you move forward in life.
